What is ‘totting’ penalty points?
When a driver receives penalty point supon his licence he may continue to drive when the number of points remains below 12 (or 6 for newly qualified drivers). Once the level of penalty points reaches 12 or above within a 3 year period the licence is subject to the ‘totting up procedure’ which involves a mandatory driving ban of at least 6 months.
