Introduction

Mr DA was arrested by police on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.

His son’s partner had made rape allegations against his son, and DA was an in-between for childcare arrangements while his son was on bail.

The allegations related to alleged efforts made by DA to ensure that the complainant in his son’s case withdrew her allegations.

DA is a professional man and was dismayed at the allegations made. He had been represented by a solicitor at his interview by Police but did not feel that they were being proactive with the Police in the handling of his case. He chose to change representation and instruct specialist defence criminal barrister Quentin Hunt to represent him at the pre-charge stage on a direct public access basis. 

Upon instruction Quentin got in touch with the Police and had a long conversation with the Officer in the Case in order to understand that case that the prosecution was putting forward and the allegations that DA had to meet. Following this he held a conference with DA where the allegations were discussed, and a detailed action plan was put together to work towards getting the case discontinued.

Thereafter, Quentin and DA worked together to put together a pack of evidence, forming videos, phone records and documentary evidence. He then put together a detailed letter of representations for DA explaining the evidence to the Police and why the case against DA was based on falsehoods. This letter, together with an evidential pack, was submitted to the Police.

Shortly after submitting representations to the Police Quentin was informed that the case had been reviewed and that No Further Action was to be taken against his client. The case was closed, and Quentin’s client could get on with his life without the stress of the investigation hanging over him.
